Investec: Arrival Education
Investec supports Arrival Education who run an innovative,
year-long programme to help disadvantaged young people maximise
their future potential. The ultimate aim is to have the
participants apply for places at top universities and employers.
Investec volunteers work with students by running workshops and
coaching.
Cash contribution:
- Cash: £35,000
- Time: £5,256 of paid company time from 70 volunteers
- Total value of contributions: £40,256
Community benefits:
- The programme has directly benefitted 331 students.
- Participants are more engaged in school, have better
relationships with parents and teachers, are better community
leaders, and are producing better school grades & attendance
results. They are also more successful in interviews for colleges
and extra opportunities, have more confidence, and gain better GCSE
mock results.
Business benefits:
Investec has measured the employee benefits of its volunteering
programmes, including the Arrival Education initiative:
- 70% of volunteers developed their adaptability, influencing and
negotiating skills
- Nearly 80% of volunteers stated that they had developed their
communication and skills used to guide and develop the performance
of others, as well as increased motivation and commitment to
Investec
- 86% increased their sense of wellbeing; their
understanding of and empathy with others; their awareness of wider
social issues; and their pride in the company
- 90% would recommend volunteering to a colleague and would talk
positively about Investec to others
